On April 22nd, 1915 Germans released chlorine gas along this gently sloping farm field outside of Ypres, Belgium. It slowly flowed across the land until it passed into the French front line trench located exactly where this unmarked dirt lane provides access to this farmer's field. This beautiful site was ground zero for the first use poison gas as a weapon of modern mass destruction.
